Ganges & Everest Travelogue March 2026

Press Officer Rick Purnell writes ….

For our February/March meetings, Teignmouth Mens Probus Club members experienced two virtual travelogues.

The first was a trip to India with a picture show of the magnificence of a slow boat trip down the River Ganges presented by Ian Gasper. For the second, we were off to Napal for a long walk with speaker Martin Brown. The trip started from Kathmandu at 4344 feet above sea level all the way up to Everest Base Camp at 17,598 ft. The powerpoint presentation of the scenery, the sherpas, Yaks, the mountainous villages, and the dangers of the very difficult terrain was breathtaking. Literally, as it is difficult to breath above 10,000 ft which can seriously impact on health with altitude sickness. Many of the members were indeed grateful for the armchair trip! Member Peter Lewis gave the vote of thanks, who having worked with Gurkha’s confirmed this trip was a hard thing to do and thanked Martin for the beautiful photos.
