Devon Air Ambulance 16th July 2025

Tony Cannon, one of Devon Air Ambulance’s experienced presenters entertained Teignmouth Mens Probus Club with a talk and slide show to remind us all of the valuable and essential life preserving service DAA has provided since 2008 when a Mrs Ralli made the first moves towards its formation when her son’s life  may have been saved had there been a helicopter service, particularly in such a large and difficult to get to places in the County of Devon. Tony recounted the story from the first rented helicopter through to the present day with two modern owned and maintained helicopters working from two centres, Exeter Airport and Umberley in North Devon, together with paramedic staffed critical care cars added in 2020. This enables casualties  to have access to critical life-saving care withing that magic ‘golden hour’ meaning survival or not.  Members of the audience participated by commenting about some praiseworthy and thankful interventions from personal experiences and reinforced the constant and perpetual need for continued financial support for this wholly voluntary funded charity by the general public of our County and beyond.

After a lively Q&A session, the vote of thanks was given by Member David MacVeigh with the collection tin adding a bob or two.

We are now all away on our summer holidays after a jolly luncheon meeting hosted by The Ship Inn last Wednesday. Meeting start again on 3rd September.
